Open the timelineMaterials
The materials that define Richard Mille cases and calibres, as the brand describes them.
- Carbon TPT®
- Composed of multiple layers of parallel filaments obtained by dividing carbon fibres, impregnated with resin and stacked with a 45° shift between layers, then heated to 120°C at 6 bars before machining. Renowned for its resistance to microcracks.
- Quartz TPT®
- Developed with North Thin Ply Technology: hundreds of layers of silica-based quartz filaments, no more than 45 microns thick, stacked by an automatic system that turns the fibres 45° between each layer. It is what gives Richard Mille cases their solid colours.
- Gold Carbon TPT®
- Some 600 layers of parallel carbon filaments interleaved with gold leaf, giving a gilded, marbled finish.
- Grade 5 titanium
- An alloy of 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium: biocompatible, highly corrosion resistant and rigid, widely used for baseplates, bridges and cases.
- ATZ ceramic
- A white ceramic known for its high scratch resistance (1,400 Vickers) and its colour that never changes. TZP is its black and coloured counterpart.
- Cermet
- A metallic zirconium matrix with high-performance ceramic inserts, combining the lightness of titanium with the hardness of a ceramic.
- Coloured sapphire
- Cases cut from sections of a single block of coloured sapphire. Colour depends on temperature and crystal growth; the machining takes weeks.

What is the Richard Mille index?
RM Index is an independent catalogue of every known Richard Mille reference: 142 references in 70 families, with 207 documented colourways and editions, from the RM 001 of 2001 to today. Each entry links to the official model page or to the published sources that confirm it.
How many Richard Mille watch references are there?
The index lists 142 references: 32 in the current collection, 94 historical models and 16 special pieces such as sapphire, skull, jewellery and unique editions. Many references exist in several colourways and limited editions, which are listed on each watch page.
What was the first Richard Mille watch?
The RM 001 Tourbillon, presented in 2001. It was the pre-series of the RM 002, and every Richard Mille reference since descends from it.
What are the best-known Richard Mille nicknames?
Collectors call the time-only Rafael Nadal line (RM 035, RM 35-01, RM 35-02, RM 35-03) the “Baby Nadal”, and the RM 055 Bubba Watson the “Baby Bubba”. The two RM 035 Americas editions are the “Black Toro” and “Gold Toro”, and the RM 67-02 made for high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim is known as the “Qatar”. You can search the index by nickname.
How are Richard Mille references numbered?
References share a base number per family: the RM 027 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal was followed by the RM 27-01 to RM 27-05, and the RM 011 by the RM 11-01 to RM 11-05. Later pieces use the two-digit form with a version suffix. Lettered series such as the RM UP-01 and RM HJ-02 form families of their own.
Which Richard Mille watches are in the current collection?
32 references are in the official collection today. The most recent include the RM HJ-02, RM 64-01, RM 55-01, RM 41-01.
What materials does Richard Mille use?
Grade 5 titanium, red and white gold, TZP and ATZ ceramics, sapphire crystal, and the brand's composites Carbon TPT® and Quartz TPT®, made from many layers of parallel filaments impregnated with resin and stacked at a 45° shift. Each colourway on the watch pages lists its case materials.
Where can I buy a Richard Mille watch?
RM Index does not sell watches. New pieces are sold through Richard Mille boutiques. Each watch page has a Where to buy section listing independent dealers who carry that reference, with their asking price and a direct link. Dealers can ask to be listed through the contact page.
Is RM Index affiliated with Richard Mille?
No. RM Index is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Richard Mille. Watch images and model names © Richard Mille; photos from the press and dealers are credited to their source on each page.
